McLaren Automotive has today released a video featuring a behind-the-scenes peek at the development of its new Ferrari-chasing MP4-12C supercar.
The video includes the first moving images of the new British supercar on road and track, albeit in the form of some of the 'XP' devlopment prototypes that have been tested on the roads and race tracks of the world during 2009 - a programme in which the Nordschleife and the BBC Top Gear test track at Dunsfold aerodrome have featured heavily.
Other highlights of the Macca flick include senior engineers talking through the steps of the development process, as well as the views of Chris Goodwin, chief test driver for McLaren and a professional racer, on how the MP4-12C copes in extremis.
Dick Glover, technical director of McLaren Automotive and boss of he 50-strong testing and development team, also takes the viewer around the state-of-the-art Mclaren Technology Centre.
Glover says: "Having to develop a brand new range of cars from scratch to the standards expected of McLaren, featuring ground-breaking new structures and powertrain is the ultimate challenge and one we are relishing. Sure, we have challenges - that is why we go to these places that absolutely push the cars to their limits and beyond - but now we know just what the 12C is capable of, we are able to push on into 2010 and deliver cars of which McLaren will be rightly proud."
But enough rabbiting from us. Sit back, get the popcorn out (or a cup of tea, we really don't mind) and take a look at the video by clicking on the image below.
