Two Lexus LF-A coupes will be racing at the Nurburgring 24hrs this weekend, and Toyota has revealed the first official photos of its cars in race livery.
The pair of 500bhp V10-powered machines will be raced by a driver line-up that includes Toyota's boss Akio Toyoda, as well as several of the company's test drivers.
Last year a single LF-A competed in the Nurburgring 24hrs, running in matte black 'prototype-style' bodywork, so the launch of a two-pronged attack with properly-liveried cars this year must say something interesting about Toyota's ongong strategy for the LF-A, even if we're not quite sure what!
It's worth noting that the race car livery still masks design details like the headlamp shape, while the racing nose with its front splitter and additional lamp cut-outs also maintains a sense of mystery over exactly how the final production version will look - if we're going to get a production version, that is.
Maybe Toyoda-san hopes to make an announcement on the LF-A's future from the winner's podium - perhaps to confirm a production debut for the car at the Tokyo motorshow this autumn, in line with current speculative reports.
Meanwhile here's a link to some recent video of the LF-A in action at the 'Ring.
