Are carmakers getting desperate? VW has just cut the price of its best-seller, the Golf -- although only certain, probably less popular, models.
As the company put it, its revised prices are designed to offer buyers a choice based on specification rather than price. As an example, you can choose between the comfort orientated Golf SE starting from £14,630 or the sportier specification Golf Sport for a more comparable £14,900.

VW has added standard spec upgrades too including air conditioning on the S, rear electric windows on the SE (on five-door models) and a convenience pack as part of its standard specification.
Of course, even if you're looking for a Golf, you're still better off letting someone else take the depreciation hit on a new car...
