A punchy new diesel version of the Scirocco has joined the Volkswagen line-up.
Powered by a shared VW group 2.0-litre engine, the Scirocco GT TDI 170 produces 258lb ft of torque and 168bhp, an increase of 30bhp and 22lb ft over the existing 2.0-litre TDI 140 model that has been available since the car’s launch.
Volkswagen claims the new diesel Scirocco will crack 62mph in 8.1sec, over 1.2 sec quicker than the TDI 140, and will top out at 138mph when fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox, or 136mph with the DSG option.
Like all new Sciroccos, the range-topping diesel comes with VW’s Adaptive Chassis Control unit that allows a choice of driving modes, but it will only be made available with the higher-spec GT trim level. That means the TDI 170 will get dual-zone air conditioning, rain and light sensors and a six disc CD changer.
Customers will also have the option of new design ‘Lugano’ alloy wheels.
Prices start at £21,755.00 for the manual model, and rise to £23,060 for the DSG equipped car.
