"We want to produce the most expensive, luxurious and exclusive car ever made," says W Motors' Ralph R Debbas of
the Lykan Hypersport
You'll notice performance and driving dynamics don't feature anywhere in that statement, nor the video that followed its unveiling in concept form at the Qatar motor show in January. Debbas does boast, however, that the Lykan will be "the first car in the world with LED encrusted diamonds" and white gold in its headlights. And you thought Audi was getting carried away with the whole lighting-based bling thing... Obviously if diamonds aren't your thing you can have sapphires, emeralds or rubies according to the finished colour of your Lykan, just seven of which will be built.
Diamonds in the headlights, promises Debbas
Debbas does confirm that the Hypersport will have 750hp from its Ruf-sourced engine, hit 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and top out at 247mph. And if this all sounds a bit hyperbole heavy there's a clip of a room full of studious looking people studying CAD screens to prove that the car is real.
Indeed, ahead of the production version's debut at the Dubai motor show in November a new studio shot showing off that supercar staple - novelty doors - has been released. Lambo does scissors, Merc and others gullwings leaving W Motors few options in this regard. So it's gone for the reverse-hinged 'suicide' look.
It is, to quote a press release: "Compact and muscular, timeless and distinctive. A true statement of exclusivity."
