German sports car maker Wiesmann could drop more powerful BMW engines into its car's curvy chassis -- they're similar in approach to TVR and Marcos. According to Wiesmann, the GT Coupé, which currently houses a 480bhp 4.8-litre BMW V8 (see link below), is capable of carrying all BMW motors, including the M5's 507bhp V10, and maybe even the V12.
He didn't rule out diesel powerplants either.
At the same time, the company is looking to expand its production by 2009 to some 300 cars a year. That's big talk from a company that currently turns out about 90 Austin-Healey 3000-inspired cars. It also hopes to cut waiting times from the current six to 18 months.
Owner Martin Wiesmann plans to expand into the US -- where so many market expansions have failed -- but won't create its own dealers. Instead it'll piggy-back onto existing distribution networks.
