Fans of fast Alfas will no doubt be squirming with anticipation at the thought of the forthcoming
240bhp Mito GTA
. You'll still have to wait a while for the hottest Mito, but as a spicy
to whet your appetites, Alfa is set to reveal this, the 168bhp Mito Quadrifoglio Verde, at the Frankfurt motor show.
As well as marking the return of the iconic four-leaf clover badge to performance-oriented Alfas, the Quadrifoglio Verde also brings some technical innovations to the Mito.
The 168bhp 1.4-litre engine is the most powerful version yet of the Fiat group's new MultiAir family of engines. In fact, its specific output of 122bhp per litre is the highest of any production Alfa in the company's history.
Thanks to the new motor, the Quadrifoglio Verde has a 10 per cent better power-to-weight ratio than the next most powerful Mito, the 153bhp 1.4 T-Jet. This means, says Alfa, that the new car should be capable of sprinting to 62mph in 7.0sec.
The new warm Mito also showcases an all-new six-speed gearbox. According to Alfa, this "ensures clean and swift changes with very short selection movements, uniform activation pressures, no noise and no vibrations. In addition, modern design and construction techniques help to significantly reduce consumption levels thanks to less friction and the best possible gear ratios."
The Quadrifoglio Verde also introduces what Alfa terms 'Dynamic Suspension'. This is an adaptive damping system that continuously monitors and controls the car's shock absorbers, helping to contain both lateral body roll and longitudinal movement. Four electronically controlled shock absorbers, five accelerometric sensors, a control unit and an interface with the Mito's other on-board electronic systems all work to maximise grip and minimise roll, but without compromising ride comfort.
Whilst this warm Mito will be at Frankfurt next week, the GTA remains postponed, though it is expected before the end of the year.
