Everyone will have their own opinion on the Remastered series by David Brown Automotive, the original Mini being one of those cars which everyone seems to care very much about. Especially when they're restored and cost £100,000.
The Mini Remastered would seem to be doing a fair trade for its creator, though, and will no doubt receive a healthy publicity boost thanks to its newest customer. Simon Cowell has bought one - dropped off at Silverstone in his new Phantom for collection - and it's a pretty special thing, even by the standards of these intriguing little cars.
'Keeping the British end up' is how DBA is telling the world about this Mini, because, as you can probably tell, it's inspired by the Lotus Esprit from For Your Eyes Only. As well as remaining one of Roger Moore's most memorable innuendos...
To be as faithful a homage as possible, obviously bearing in mind the original was a mid-engined sports car and this is a Mini, the Remastered car is painted Lotus Copper Gold with Sahara Gold wheels and accents. The 'Fade to Black' arches and roof are there for "accentuating the lines of the distinctive body shape." Sadly, despite the 'Turbo' graphic, this Remastered Mini uses the same naturally aspirated A-Series as the other commissions that have preceded it.
While all of these David Brown Minis come with an upgraded infotainment system, better speakers and plusher materials, the Cowell car is unlike any seen before. The dash is finished in gloss lacquered 'Dark American Burr Walnut', the leather is in 'Arctic White', the headlining complements it in white Alcantara and even the Smiths dials are done in ivory. DBA describes the end result as "a perfect blend of contemporary and classic features."
Exactly what Simon Cowell has planned for his Mini, the release doesn't say, but it's a car likely to draw attention wherever it goes - surely the main reason for buying one. Those that are interested in creating a one-off Remastered are invited to contact David Brown now. Presumably your wish is their command, so get those thinking caps on - and those EuroMillions tickets bought...
