New policy features for newer drivers
Car insurance may be going up, but Sterling Insurance is doing its best
to 'keep a hat' on Hot Hatch and GTi premiums, especially for younger
drivers. The company has devised schemes that take full account of
drivers' habits and circumstances to help reduce costs.
For example, if a driver has owned a vehicle for over a year, it could
qualify for a loyalty ownership discount, reducing premiums significantly.
Likewise, if it's more than ten years old, it may be able to benefit from
a 'cherished car' discount. There are more familiar discounts, too, such
as for off-road parking and membership of owners clubs.
Sterling suggests that discounts of up to 30% can be achieved, given
the right answers to the various questions.
Part of the Adrian Flux group, Sterling reckons to be able to offer
prices that are substantially lower than its competitors' on 'like for
like' policies. "This is one of our specialist areas and we have a
wealth of experience that has helped us to be more creative, innovative
and, ultimately, able to offer lower cost insurance," says Paul Twite
of Sterling.
One such innovation that helps drivers in their early twenties is to
allow them to claim a protected no-claims discount. Traditional insurers
will not normally offer NCD protection on younger drivers - a situation
that Sterling saw as unfair. "The savings can be substantial. A
policy holder without NCD protection who is involved in an accident could
find insurance premiums are doubled or worse," claims Paul Twite.
Another way to help younger drivers is to allow them to spread the cost
of the premium; again, this is an area that traditional insurers refuse to
consider on the grounds of unacceptable risk. Yet Sterling has created a
scheme whereby drivers as young as 18 can pay by installments over a year.
Sterling has made it easy to get advice on hot hatch and GTi insurance
by keeping phone lines open out of office hours: expert personnel are
available on the Sterling quote line from 9.00am till 7.00pm weekdays, and
9.00am till 4.00pm on Saturdays. They can usually sort out any insurance
queries, quote a premium and get the policy arranged instantly.
And more advice is available 24 hours a day on the Sterling pages of
the Adrian Flux website.
