According to that there internet the 996 generation 911 is the worst car Porsche ever made. Or something close to. If it's not the styling, people will tell you the engines are made of chocolate and you'll be lucky to get to the end of your own driveway without trailing oil, con-rods, pistons, coolant and other essentials behind you as your wallet goes up in smoke.
Guess what, turns out the internet isn't always right! Under the title "Knackered old Porsche with loads of miles" our original poster 'poppopbangbang' opens the thread in mysterious style, saying "Posting after being bugged to!" and including a picture of his odometer clocking 300,000 miles. OK, so it's a Porsche that's done big miles - what's the big deal? Possibly significant when he says it's on its original IMS, original engine and original gearbox. Definitely so when he describes how it gets used. And some of the modifications made to it to suit his rather specialist requirements.
"Built for commuting across Europe and the top end of Africa at speed" is the first suggestion this isn't your average 911, even it looks nothing too out of the ordinary. But our OP reckons "it can give a reasonable account of itself around a circuit and is capable of over 420 miles range at a 125mph cruise", not to mention that it also has a half-metre wading depth. And has been used to hump bales around in a field as a sideline.
You'll be wanting to read the whole thread by now, right? Here it is...
