Seat will be showing two new models at the Geneva Show - the new Ibiza,
which goes on sale in the UK in May, and the brand new, high performance Leon
Cupra R.
Although
the fifth generation Ibiza is completely new, it’s still very recognisable as
an Ibiza. It takes its styling cues from both the current SEAT family and the
exciting Salsa concept car.
Of more interest is the Leon Cupra R. Developed jointly by SEAT’s Technical
Centre and SEAT Sport, the Leon Cupra R is SEAT’s fastest, most powerful
roadgoing car to date and takes another step towards the SEAT's desired image as
a maker of sporty cars - a Spanish Alfa Romeo.
The 1.8 litre turbo-charged engine has been fine tuned to deliver 210 bhp and
198 ft lb of torque making this the most powerful front-wheel drive car in its
segment. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this engine takes the Leon Cupra R from
0-62 mph in 7.2 seconds. It also boasts the "Agile Chassis" system
(developed on the Cupra R prototype) ABS, TCS, ESP, HBA emergency braking,
Brembo disc brakes, red four-pot callipers, 18" alloys, lowered suspension
and large air intakes. Inside there are Recaro seats, aircon, 6-CD player, black
and red interior trim, front and side airbags.
The Leon Cupra R will reach the UK market late summer 2002.
