Detroit is showcasing the near and long-term future of cars as we know them but PHers are having equal amounts of fun looking back at their favourite old-school print adverts from an age when carmakers were less squeamish than they are now. Indeed, naming and shaming the competition all seemed part of the fun with slogans like "Nought to naughty naughty in 8.5 secs" or, from MG's marketing department for the Maestro, "The Golf GTI will be along in a second."
When not enjoying this advertising banter PHers have also been appreciating some of the deals on offer in these ads and considering them in a modern context. Such as the ability to mail order a Ford Escort Mexico for £25 and 'your old banger'. Now that's the kind of scrappage scheme we could support!
