Ginetta has finalised the relocation of its Want2Race business from Donington Park to a new HQ at Blyton Park in Lincolnshire, enabling it to both grow the number of customer services it offers and also bring more work in house. The director of Want2Race, Ben Hyland, told PH that the move will allow his firm to store, prep and even transport track cars to circuits from the same location, while maintaining its other services like trackdays and drive experiences.
That, coupled to the fact that the Donington Park base was reaching its capacity, encouraged the move. The new Blyton Park HQ has storage space for 70 customer road, track or race cars, with its fleet of 12 rental cars and transporters also on site, which became part of the Ginetta portfolio back in 2017. As such, the facility’s “while-you-wait race car servicing” is already up and running, and Ginetta’s SIMTrack simulator is barely an hour away at the car firm’s Garforth home.
It means that the firm’s services can incorporate pretty much every part of the customer racing world, including the maintenance and transportation of a driver's car, providing them with sim training and then letting them loose on actual tracks, including BP, Silverstone and Spa. Not only does that make the whole process simpler and easier to manage for Ginetta, but also cheaper. Hyland said the reduced reliance on outsourced transporters, for example, will lower W2R’s bills. It can move 15-20 cars to each event.
Of course, for a company that prides itself on being a homegrown Yorkshire brand, the transition is about more than just the economic benefits. Having the operations of the LNT Group – the parent company run by Ginetta boss, Lawrence Tomlinson – at close quarters gives the company a better-established home, something that the use of Donington Park may have slightly hindered. It boosts W2R’s USP, as well, as Hyland made clear in today’s announcement.
“Want2race is the only company in the industry able to prepare, store and provide a track & driver training service for our customers,” he said. “We believe their every need is provided for and this exciting development and expansion further strengthens and enhances the services we provide for our customers.”
While everything barring the move itself is largely paused at the moment, Hyland told PH that Want2Race is ready to hit the ground running once lockdown allows the motorsport calendar to restart. Which, given the detrimental effect being felt across the board, is very positive news for a much respected British brand.
