The rivalry between Ford and Ferrari makes for perfect Hollywood fodder. Plucky former chicken farmer and straight-shooting Texan Carroll Shelby, belatedly brought in by the Blue Oval to end the dominance of the arrogant and highfalutin European powerhouse. It makes sense, then, that breaking the never-ending cycle of Disney remakes and Marvel blockbusters this November will be Ford v. Ferrari, a new film out to tell exactly that tale.
Starring Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles - the ex-pat Brit who developed and raced the GT40 - the film looks to bring the story to life for a wider audience than just petrolheads alone. To that end the trailer released yesterday certainly alludes to a good deal of, shall we say, enhanced drama, but no matter, it looks fantastic nonetheless.
Although the likes of Drive, Baby Driver and of course the Fast & Furious franchise mean that a car-centric film is never far away, it's been six years since 2013's Rush last really hit the spot when it came to the kind of cinematic experience that enthusiasts are after. From the looks of this trailer, though, our next helping of petrol-powered pleasure isn't more than six months away.
