Monterey Car Week is imminent, which means only one thing: a new Hennessey Venom F5 will be in California. This year it’s the turn of the Revolution Roadster, which combines the open body with the track focus of the Revolution Coupe. Plus, y’know, the 1,817hp…
This being Hennessey, everything about the Revolution Roadster is pretty extreme. Even the roof makes a Porsche 718 Spyder RS look like a Rolls Dawn, the single-piece carbon arrangement weighing just 8kg and secured with four bolts and pair of high-strength latches. Top speed hasn’t been quoted, though you probably wouldn’t want to do 250mph-plus with the roof off.
Hennessey says that the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster brings together the best bits of both the more focused coupe and the drop-top model; specifically, that’s ‘visceral open-air motoring with a racing circuit focus’. Even on something less extreme (all things being relative) like a McLaren 765LT Spider, the roofless track car is a pretty heady cocktail, so expect more of the same here.
Everything that marked out the Revolution hardtop has made it through the transition - see the huge splitters, new rear wing, chunky dive planes and air scoop - as well as the changes under the skin like retuned suspension. Quite what a two-wheel drive car with three times the power of a Huracan Sterrato and a circuit-focused chassis setup is like rather boggles the mind.
The Revolution Roadster is the fourth Venom F5 model; frankly, we’ve lost track of how many should have been made and which ones are sold out, but Hennessey says that a dozen of these will be made, they’ll cost from $3m, and they’re all spoken for. The car seen here and set for The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on August 18th is a ‘Bare Carbon’ version. Of the 12 just five will be in this spec, featuring a carbon weave ‘methodically arranged in a herringbone pattern to accentuate the F5’s graceful lines.’
John Hennessey said: “The new Venom F5 Revolution Roadster combines our track-focused hypercar with an open-top for an unmatched visceral driving experience. This first example, a bespoke build for a special client, debuts our bare carbon finish with its meticulous handcrafted exposed carbon-fibre weave. Our hypercar is a timeless work of art that is as visually inspiring as it is physically engaging, thanks to its 1,817-hp combustion-only twin-turbocharged V8.” Expect all 12 to be finished just in time for 2024’s edition - that’s got to be the spoilerless one more suited to road driving, right?
