What with everything going on at Aston Martin at the moment, it can be easy to forget about the motorbike project. Or rather, the AMB 001 by Aston Martin and Brough Superior (good job bikes don't tend to have badges). Announced last year as the first two-wheeled Aston ever, the AMB 001 is an astonishingly exclusive bike: just 100 will be made, at more than €100,000 each.
As development continues ahead of the bikes reaching customers later this year, we have this video from the Pau-Arnos circuit. Which does a very good job of making the 001 look even cooler than it already did, although the backing music ensures we get no hint at all about the sound of the unique turbo engine. Which is a bit of shame - hopefully that will follow soon. As with any high performance car, track tests for a fast bike aim to achieve similar objectives: "validate the chassis geometry, the ergonomics and the dynamic behaviour" is the Aston line. Because "making sure it's really good if buyers actually want to ride the bike and not just mount it on the wall" would be a bit clumsy.
Aston Martin Executive VP and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman said: "Everybody involved has managed to make tremendous progress with the development of AMB 001, despite the challenges we have all been facing. This special motorcycle is, like our road cars, the result of beautiful design melding with modern technology to produce a bike that any collector will be proud of."
Certainly it looks just as spectacular here as it has previously, the AMB 001 duly bringing together the traditional superbike silhouette with some futuristic details to create something unforgettable - even with the camo on. Buyers who have taken the plunge will be pleased to know that production is still set to commence in the autumn, and deliveries will take place at the end of 2020. What a Christmas present it promises to be.
