Autocar has named the Lotus Elise as "Britain's Best Driver's Car
2001". After testing twenty of Britain's newest sports cars on road and
track the Elise came out on top.
Amongst the team of testers was TVR chairman Peter Wheeler. He commented
"I was really impressed with the Lotus. It felt very well balanced, very
well connected to the road and, despite the shortage of horsepower in comparison
with a TVR, it performed well, too."
The Elise beat off strong competition from the Noble M12, Mitsubishi Evo VII,
Ferrari 360 Modena and Porsche 911 GT2.
David Taitt, Director of Engineering is very pleased with the result, "Lotus
has been designing and building sportscars for over 53 years, and each one has
set the benchmark for what a fine handling car should be. The Elise has won over
30 awards in the last five years and this award, of which we are particularly
proud, shows that the Elise is still the car that the other motor manufacturers
try to beat."
