Given the progress being made throughout the world of EVs, it would be great for Jaguar to be able to announce this model year 2024 I-Pace with more range and quicker charging possible - as per something like the Audi Q8 e-tron. Alas, this is not as substantive an update as might be hoped for, the range now comprised of an R-Dynamic S, R Dynamic SE Black, R-Dynamic HSE Black and a 400 Sport but with the fundamentals - 400hp, 292 WLTP miles, 100 kW charging - unchanged. Given how fast things move in the world of electric cars, it’s strange to see an update that doesn’t improve the vital stats. But then we’re not the ones attempting to improve the efficiency of electrical vehicle architecture; it’s clearly not the work of a moment.
For its part, Jaguar says this new I-Pace is more desirable than ever, with a new grille, Atlas Grey front aperture blades and body-coloured rear diffuser contributing ‘heightened visual impact and presence’. Satin paint is now an option for the first time, which is interesting, but the colours don’t exactly sound it: Eiger Grey or Carpathian Grey. A Black Pack is standard on everything above R-Dynamic S, and there’s a new 22-inch wheel on offer. The most significant addition to the I-Pace range for 2024 is a 400 Sport model, as previously seen in the F-Type and F-Pace. Based on the R-Dynamic HSE Black, it adds a bootlid spoiler, adaptive air suspension, 22-inch black wheels and ‘slimline performance seats’.
Nick Collins, Jag’s Executive Director of Vehicle Programmes, said: “I-Pace has always offered a comprehensive package of performance, agility, technology and everyday usability that customers expect from a Jaguar, together with the smooth, quiet and effortless driving experience that electrification offers. We’ve delivered exactly that, and now it’s our latest model to benefit from our approach of offering more curated, richer specifications.
“Looking to the future we’re applying the know-how from our electrified vehicle programmes and accelerated technological development enabled by our collaborative partnership with the Jaguar TCS Racing Team to reimagine Jaguar as an all-electric modern luxury brand from 2025.” A date which really, really doesn’t seem too far away.
The 2024 model year I-Pace is available to order now, priced from £69,995 for the R-Dynamic S. The R-Dynamic SE Black starts at £73,495, the R-Dynamic HSE Black is £77,495 and the range is capped with the 400 Sport, which costs £79,995. Broadly competitive with cars like the Q8 Sportback e-tron (from £71,095) and Mercedes EQC (from £72,335); even an iX3 is almost £65,000. And the I-Pace definitely still warrants consideration against that group, even with just a very minor tweak. Just don’t ask how much less a 585hp Kia EV6 GT is.
