Need more power? TVR Power may have just the thing for you.
TVR Power has announced its latest development of the Rover V8 engine for the Chimaera, Griffith and V8S models. in a development dubbed the Laughing V8, the TVR offshoot has bored out the venerable Buick-designed block to 5.3 litres and added tweaks so that it develops 384 bhp and 395 ft/lb of torque in normally-aspirated form. Then it adds a state-of-the-art nitrous oxide system. TVR Power says that, when the nitrous is armed and activated, it produces over 500 bhp and nearly 600 ft/lb of torque.
As the TVR Power Web site says, "we understand that not everyone will want that sort of power, the Nitrous is an optional extra…only for the brave of heart!"
From the normally aspirated power figures, we feel that there is still more to come , said TVR power, and intends to continue development. You'd have to wonder about the cost of suspension, braking and drive-train strengthening that would be essential to deal with all that power…
