As you'll know, the PH community includes people from many different automotive and engineering backgrounds. From weekend tinkerers to professional mechanics, some of them working right at the sharp end of their respective fields.
One such PHer is poppopbangbang who, despite modestly describing his occupation as "works on cars" has been involved in an incredibly special project. The group he works with was approached by a client with a brief to not just turn a Sauber Formula One chassis into a working car, but a practical one to boot. It had to be easy for a small number of people to run, able to do far greater distances between rebuilds than a standard F1 car, and yet retain the reliability, aerodynamic performance and speed associated with the breed.
With a great deal of the necessary components absent, a huge amount of in-house design work was necessary as well, of course, as an extensive testing programme - at Zolder no less. Needless to say, poppopbangbang is able to go into incredible detail about each stage of the build, in what surely makes for one of the most absorbing threads we've ever read on the site.
So without further ado, check out his full story here.
