Crash damage is the first thing to check for, even if the car has no Category D or C marker showing on a history check. Look for straight, even panel lines and matching paint colour over the whole car. If the car has been sprayed or wrapped, ask why it's been done.
Small amounts of rust aren't unheard of
One reason for a respray is the paint marks readily on the front parts of the car exposed to stone chips. Owners either put up with this or have a clear film applied to the most prone areas.
Check around the bottom of the door windows and quarter lights for any hints of corrosion beginning to bubble through. It's more common than you might think but is easy to fix if caught early.
Are there any signs of condensation in the rear lights? It's a common fault with these cars, but can be remedied under warranty with new lenses.
There's a huge aftermarket for body styling kits for the BRZ and GT86, much of which originates from Japan or the USA. As with all modifications, it comes down your taste and how well the kit has been fitted.
PHer's view:
"A nice feature is the front wings have a good profile and shape so this helps with accurate road placement."
