The first wave of Terramars, billed as Cupra’s final production model with combustion power, is available to order from today. It’s priced from £37,605 for the 150hp 1.5, rising to £51,790 for the most powerful PHEV in First Edition spec.
It’s the 265hp 2.0 TSI that’s probably of most PH interest, zipping the new family SUV to 62mph in less than six seconds thanks to that power, 295lb ft, and a standard DSG auto. It kicks off at £45,095 in VZ1 spec with 19-inch wheels, a useful £5k saving over the BMW X1 M35i that feels like the Cupra’s closest rival despite boasting a little more power. The VZ2 gets 20-inch wheels as part of the standard kit and is £47,745; expect it to be the better selling of the specs, not least thanks to very snazzy (and standard) ‘Deep Burgundy Leather bucket seats with copper stitching’.
Both of the 265hp models get the option of an Akebono brake upgrade as well, which certainly doesn’t make it to every extras list. While the configurator doesn’t share exactly what it comprises, you’d hope for some meaningful improvement given the £2,035 price.
Finally, there’s a special edition to consider. Cupra has teamed up with the America’s Cup sailing competition, so there’s a Cupra Terramar America’s Cup car. There’ll be 1,300 globally, all getting their own design of 20-inch wheel, exclusive Enceladus Grey Matt paint, America’s Cup logos and a leather interior. ‘There is no second’ is the shared motto. An America’s Cup with the 2.0 TSI costs £50,850.
Marcus Gossen, Director of SEAT and Cupra UK, said: “We are delighted to announce that Terramar is now available for order in the UK. We thrive on pushing boundaries, and the Terramar is redefining what it means to be a sporty SUV. The new model embraces our refreshed design language and all-new plug-in hybrid technology to bring a thrilling combination of design, performance and emotion. I can't wait to see it on UK roads and to witness the continued success of the brand in the UK with our all-new lineup."
With the Terramar’s introduction, it joins the Ateca and Formentor in the Cupra range as a similarly sized, similarly priced, similarly powered SUV, so don’t say there isn’t any choice. And if new still looks a bit much, there are 300hp Atecas around for half the price of a Terramar…
