Yes, Gran Turismo really has become that influential that Bugatti can now see the value in creating a concept car for the game. The purveyors of 250mph hypercars want to be involved with a PlayStation driving sim. Incredible.
Previewing the next Veyron perhaps?
It has been designed to evoke the legendary racing Bugattis of the 1920s and 30s while surely also previewing some hints at future Bugatti styling. The official line is that this is a "super sports car which unites two characteristics, the beauty and the beast." Familiar cues such as the horseshoe grille are there, with the wheels clearly influenced by the Type 35. But this is patently not a throwback racer, a point forced home by the interior; more Bugatti blue but adorning a race seat, wheel and plentiful Alcantara.
Frustratingly there are very few actual details on the car. Yes, it's a car for a video game but usually these cars have some sort of fanciful powertrain to claim a tenuous production link. And it's a Bugatti! Surely it should be powered by unicorn blood and make 18,000hp? Alas there's nothing, so feel free to speculate on what a fictional Bugatti could be powered by.
That's about it for now, without even a confirmation of when the car will be available on Gran Turismo. But you would like to think this "perfect symbiosis of engineering and aesthetics" will be available soon. The kids are impatient these days, aren't they?
