There once was a time when ceramic was mostly used for crockery and only applied to brakes as an expensive option.
But Ferrari is reported to be giving all its cars carbon ceramic brakes as standard from next year.
This type of braking system has been offered as an option on Lamborghinis, Porsches and Ferraris for some time but this is thought to be the first time they have been standard across a whole range.
The brakes work much more effectively and are lighter than conventional discs.
According to reports, Ferrari General Manager Amedeo Felisa announced at the Bologna Show all cars wearing the Prancing Horse would come out of the factory with carbon ceramic brakes supplied by Brembo from 2008.
