Citroen DS3 Racing
probably won't be remembered as a hot hatch icon, a situation not likely to be helped with the arrival of this. This being Cabriolet Racing concept seen at Goodwood and confirmed by Citroen for production.
Have you ever seen a car on track...
It will use the same 204hp 1.6-litre turbocharged engine as the hatch but will be even more outlandish in its exterior design. So the Moondark matt paint, laser-etched mirror detailing and two-tone canvas roof are likely to make production. But in case this suggests the cabrio is losing sight of its 'Racing' tag, the 19-inch wheels do have carbon fibre inserts.
In fact, calling this 204hp DS3 cabrio a Racing seems something of a misnomer; it's intended more as an image-builder for the Citroen's DS range of models, which has been hugely successful in China. Ergo, Citroen is pushing the luxury aspect of the DS cars, with the Cabriolet Racing featuring embossed Nappa leather plus Carmin red accents inside and out.
with a leather-trimmed baby seat?
The concept even features a baby seat trimmed in matching interior leather, which could make production. The latter option is perhaps less surprising when it's discovered that 80 per cent of DS3 cabrios are sold to women.
Bizarrely, Citroen compounds the DS3 Racing cabrio's identity crisis further with the rather incongruous mention of the insignificant weight gain (25kg) over the hatch as well as performance 'of a car tuned by the multi-WRC title winning team, Citroën Racing'. It will go on show to the world's fashionistas at Frankfurt, with around 100 likely to make it to Britain. Meanwhile, we can but wait in hope for Citroen to reproduce a GT or VTS hero for us again soon.
