It's finally the weekend and, more than likely, you've probably had enough right now of the endless meetings and politics and war...and that's just at the office, let alone the real guns being fired east of us. So it's time for a fillip to heal the (strictly emotional) wounds and make you feel whole again, if only for a moment. And, being PH, that's something car related and special. Now, this isn't some dreary marketing video full of guff and slogans like 'Passion is more than a word; it's a feeling' that will make you sink deeper into a plunge pool of despair. This is actual pleasure on a reel that's worthy of a minute or so of your time. Promise.
Put simply, it's a beautiful car making a beautiful noise. Well, it made the hairs on the back of my neck flick forward, that's for sure. It's the new De Tomaso P72, which was first shown at last years Festival of Speed. Here it's dressed in a camo wrap but it still looks classic and elegant and everything else that could possibly describe droolsomely desirable. As we mentioned last summer, its laudable styling is a nod to the De Tomaso P70 of 1965.
And in another nod to De Tomasos of the past, there's the noise. Oh my, the noise. The P72 is powered by a 5.0-litre Ford V8 that's been tuned by Roush. It's said to develop around 710hp and 608lb ft of torque, which is no doubt why the car being driven here on the snow spent a good deal of the time going sideways. So if the looks don't get you going, surely that glorious, old-school-American-V8-supercharged soundtrack has to. Passion is more than a word, you know, it's four: the De Tomaso P72. Amazing in every way.
