Amazingly enough, it was as long ago as June 2021 that the Ferrari 296 GTB was revealed, and the first cars driven in early 2022. With Ferrari then embarking on both a triumphant return to Le Mans and the Purosangue, the rest of the range perhaps hasn’t been the centre of attention for a little while. Time for Novitec to remind the world of what a 296 can be.
What’s more mad: that more power has been added to a 296 GTB? Or that adding just 38hp extra to a series production Ferrari has made for an 868hp one? The car may have been around for a little while now, but the numbers are no less staggering. Novitec has added its own ‘high-efficiency turbo inlets’ plus a sports exhaust to push power more than twice that of a 718 Cayman GT4. Madness.
Those upgrades were already available, however. Now Novitec has some additional bodykit parts on offer for the 296 GTB, to give it more of a Pista-style look to go along with the extra power.
They’re easy to spot because they’re in carbon against the red paintwork, and include the rear deck with pronounced ducktail incorporated, the side skirts, intakes, front extended splitter and rear diffuser. It looks… well, it looks great, because it’s surely impossible to make an ugly 296. But it’s also reasonably restrained; there was surely scope to go a lot sillier.
Completing the look, as per most Novitec builds, are Vossen wheels - a huge 21-inch up front and 22s behind. Amazingly, it would appear that silver wheels are on offer and not just black. The Ferrari is lowered too, of course, with customers able to choose from just a new spring kit or Novitec x KW V5 suspension (the same coilovers recently introduced for the Porsche Carrera GT). They can even be added with a nose lift if for some reason the GTB didn’t leave Maranello with one.
Of course, many will see the 296 GTB as pretty perfect already; those who don’t will be pleased to know that the Novitec parts are available now. Just the thing to jazz up this very modestly specced Grigio Alloy car. Bring on the Purosangue, right?
