The one problem with driving the
Lamborghini Aventador SV
? It's so damned low nobody can see YOU driving the Lamborghini Aventador SV, somewhat limiting the posing potential. Problem solved thanks to removal of the roof,
Now they'll be able to see you at the wheel
Lamborghini catering to the inevitable demand of those needing to be seen at the wheel of the SV by confirming what
we already knew
and announcing a run of 500 SV Roadsters.
Some may mutter into their beards that the reputations of supposedly hardcore and purist coupes are diluted when offered as convertible versions but that hasn't stopped Ferrari selling 16M and 'Aperta' versions of Scuderias and Speciales. And though the official line is McLaren won't build a Spider version of the 675LT you have to wonder how many times they'll be asked before they give in. And they've been asked a lot, according to McLaren execs, no doubt aware of the bottom line and fact that eight out of 10 650S buyers opt for the Spider.
Quick-release carbon panels open it up
So the business case is clear. And having easily sold all 600 SV coupes who's to blame Lamborghini for seeing the opportunity to sell 500 Roadsters too. And while the purist view will always maintain that the coupe is the 'proper' version there's no denying an open top SV will be a pretty intense way to get from A to B. What do you lose then, other than the roof? A tenth of the acceleration time meaning 62mph now comes up in 2.9 rather than 2.8 seconds and the same 219mph top speed. Seeing as the latter is actually capped in the coupe and it'll achieve it even in the highest of the three downforce settings you sense Lamborghini has a little in hand at the top end to offset the 50kg weight penalty losing the roof brings. Enough to be able to hit that top speed with the quick release carbon roof panels removed though? We'll tell you when they let us have a go...
What else? It'll cost you from £350,000 (about £30K more than the coupe) with a full Alcantara interior, five standard colours and additional Ad Personam options like the Blu LeMans in the photos. Deliveries start in the spring. McLaren? Your move!
