Lamborghini has used the launch of its virtual Ad Personam studio - a new showroom platform where buyers can customise their cars - to create a new special edition version of the Aventador. There will be just 10 examples of the SVJ Xago Edition 1, which must be ordered via Lambo's online service. The limited edition model builds on the spec of the 770hp SVJ with a few styling modifications and presumably an even loftier asking price.
The influences are appropriately mad for a Lambo of this stature, with the hexagon shapes on the car's exterior inspired by the six-sided clouds that form at the North Pole on Saturn (yep, that Saturn). The Xago's bodywork patterns also emphasise the 'hexagonita' pattern seen in elsewhere in Lamborghini's designs. The motif fades on the Aventador's exterior to highlight the possibilities of finish available.
Naturally, the paintwork itself is an Ad Personam feature, as are the gloss black Nireo rims. The cabin gets a hexagonita themed seat pattern, and each car is identified by a numbered plaque. While only a small number of Aventadors are being made to celebrate the launch of Ad Personam, Lambo expects over 150 customers to use the platform to customise their cars, including Aventadors, Huracans and Urus. We'd hedge that the majority will be buying the latter, given it sent production at Sant'Agata Bolognese soaring by 30 per cent in 2019.
"Lamborghini is always thinking dynamically about the best solutions to challenges, and our new virtual Ad Personam studio consultations have been carefully devised to support clients who, in times where we are all cautious about international travel, still want the special, one-to-one experience of creating an entirely personalized car," said Giovanni Perosino, chief commercial officer at Lamborghini. "We still look forward to welcoming clients to Sant' Agata Bolognese in the future but we expect more than 150 Ad Personam consultations to take place virtually within this year, and continuing as an option for the future."
Last week the manufacturer reported a quick return to normal sales following lockdown. As Perosino told PH in a recent round table, key regions including the US, Asia and Britain have generated plenty of demand for the Urus. A UK spokesperson added that the recently launched - and brilliantly exciting - Huracan RWD is also providing a significant sales boost for Lamborghini. Expect a ritzy new configurator to do the brand no harm at all.
