We like a bit of Lego at PH, as evidenced by the Caterham Seven project supported on these pages a few years back. For this four-wheeled Lego kit though, no such commitment is required - it's already on sale!
The Lego Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron advanced building set, to give it its full name, has been built in collaboration with Bugatti and is 1:8 scale. With 3,599 pieces, a book of "comprehensive building instructions" and a 'Challenging' level of difficulty on the Lego website, best set aside a good chunk of time for the build...
As you might expect from a Lego Technic kit of such an extraordinary car, the attention to detail is pretty remarkable. The W16 engine has moving pistons, the front luggage compartment has a Bugatti overnight bag, the gearbox paddles are functional and there's even a top speed key, to switch over the active rear wing.
All the Lego Chirons will be two-tone blue, the Bugatti signature scheme, though each one will have a unique serial number. Delivered in - contain your excitement here - "luxurious box packaging" and with a collectors' booklet too, the kit is said "to capture the essence of the quintessential super sports car." Certainly looks that way from here, though we'd be very surprised if the completed PH build was quite as good as this one...
The Technic Bugatti Chiron is available to buy from Lego stores and the Lego website now, priced at £330. Not cheap, of course, but then Lego Technic seldom is - see the GT3 RS also launched under that banner, now to be found on eBay for £200. Still, releasing it now at least gives your friends and family plenty of time to save before December. Wonder what they'll come up with next?
