While the PH response to the
Leon Cupra R
wasn't universally positive, the arrival of the fastest SEAT yet has proved appealing enough for some: less than two months after
prices were announced
Now that's only 24 cars, yes, but it's also a £35K SEAT in a hot hatch market of almost unprecedented strength and depth. As a way of bolstering the kudos of the brand ahead of a standalone launch, the news could hardly be better.
SEAT UK's Director Richard Harrison said that "we've simply been blown away by the amount of interest it's generated", despite optimistic predictions given the UK's frenzied appetite for hot hatches. Remember too that every Cupra R here will be a six-speed manual (arguably reducing its potential customer base), with options seemingly limited to deciding you whether you wanted grey paint or black.
Which rather begs the question: are more Cupra R's coming? Back when the car was first driven on PH - when it was described as having "superb pliancy" and "eye-popping" grip - it was suggested that the 24 UK cars (from the 799 total) could be adjusted in time. We've put the question to SEAT (surely every single one from the hundreds can't be gone yet?) so we'll keep you posted.
As for now, are there any PHers with a Leon Cupra R on order? Deliveries are set to begin next month, so we'd love to know why you've plumped for one, your colour choice and what you have planned - sounds like a cracking car!
