Given the reveal of an actual sculpture - the Pu+Ra Zero was described as a ‘three-dimensional manifesto’ - garnered more than 100 comments, it’s fair to say there’s still a lot of Lancia love on PH. Even without a good one having been sold here for almost 30 years. Now there’s an actual car coming, the sky’s surely the limit…
Calling its upcoming concept nothing more exciting than, um, Concept, seems like a move designed to cause intrigue among enthusiasts. To be revealed next month, it’s an electric car (of course) which is said to further evolve the design themes seen on the magic carpet/UFO Pu+Ra Zero. “The Lancia Concept is the brand manifesto for the next ten years” said CEO Luca Napolitano, so expect to see plenty of those Stratos-style rear lights in future.
Lancia is also keen to point out the horizontal lines on the rear deck, said to evoke the Beta HPE - well done if you spotted that. Apparently, the new look ‘recreates a home feeling mood like the one of the cosy atmospheres of Italian houses, now further amplified by the large overall window space.’ Right. Seems that light and glass will be especially important to the Concept, as it’s also fitted with a circular roof; we’ll have to wait to see that in full, but Lancia promises a panoramic view. Let’s hope it comes out much more Stratos (with its amazing wraparound windscreen) than bubble car.
Lancia is remaining pretty tight-lipped about any further Concept details for now, instead offering up the sustainability and electrification buzzwords for its new era - but there’s not long to wait anyway. After decades without an even vaguely interesting Lancia, this new Concept - one that’s already being mooted as a new Stratos in some quarters - will be revealed on April 15th, or little more than a fortnight from now. For all of the long-suffering Lancia fans out there, simply that confirmation must be some good news.
