Bit of an odd one this, but then that's why it appealed. Chorley-based Tunit claims to be the first company in the UK to have tuned the
Maserati Quattroporte
diesel. And well, that's quite interesting.
As standard the QPD (can we call it that?) makes 275hp and 440lb ft. Respectable if not incredible figures when battling the uberdiesels from
Audi
and Mercedes. With the Tunit plug-in map those figures are increased to 337hp and 535lb ft. Which is a lot. Moreover, the Quattroporte now reputedly boasts a wider powerband with "savage acceleration" from just 1,200rpm whereas the standard car, says Tunit, wasn't really underway until 1,900rpm.
Because of a more efficient map the Tunit Quattroporte is said to deliver 12 per cent better fuel efficiency too. Sounds perfect, right? If you're happy to shoulder the warranty invalidation then it might be. We commend the Quattroporte customer who found their QP a little too sluggish and sought some improvement. Should you be in a similar position then the Tunit upgrades cost from £450. And don't forget about Novitec Rosso's package if the petrol Quattroporte is a little lacking too. All we need now are some factory approved upgrades. There's a petrol GTS already so a diesel would suit just nicely. The autobahn beckons...
