Beyond the obvious financial hurdles, one of the more significant obstacles to getting into a Ferrari Challenge series is obtaining an International C licence. Because no matter how much money you have, the requirement is still there to complete National A level races before being eligible for the next grade of licence from the MSA. These must be at three different venues and will obviously take some time.
But if you don't have time (and just a National A), there is now a solution: Ferrari Challenge UK, which has just been launched and requires only the National A licence. So with six signatures from a club level series (or five plus one from marshalling), anybody with sufficient wherewithal can race a Ferrari 488 Challenge. Against other 488 Challenges. Marvellous.
Beginning next year, the Ferrari Challenge UK will be an eight-race series at four tracks: Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Croft and Silverstone, with a prologue and test at Brands beforehand. Ferrari says the UK championship will run to the same rules and regulations as those series that are held in Europe, North America and Asia.
Sound cool? We'd concur. The press release states the UK trophy is open to any clients over here with a Ferrari 488 Challenge race car, and that any budding Challengistas should speak to their dealer. For those craving a more immediate hit of Ferrari racing action (and a purer one, you might argue, given it lacks turbos) a couple of 458 Challenges are currently in the PH classifieds: this yellow car is up for sale at Carrs Ferrari in Exeter, and this one is being sold with nearly 50,000 miles on it - no harm in adding a few more then...
