We all love to read threads of PHer derring-do in the forum, and this has to be one of the best. Welcome, everyone, to the panic bought Ferrari 308, otherwise known as the 'InfluEnzo'.
Purchased by PHer 'jackpe', it was bought online, unseen and "at high risk", indeed, Jack goes on to say that "in the excitement of the moment I forgot to do the most basic checks - MOT history and HPI." Fortunately, the car was okay on those fronts, with Jack able to pick up his left-hand drive, 1981, carb-injected 308 a few days later. And doesn't it look great?
Unsurprisingly given the car in question, the buying process and the spare time we all have on our hands at present, Jack's InfluEnzo has been receiving plenty of attention (and praise) in Reader's Cars. Things haven't exactly been plain sailing thus far, though that's surely par for the course when buying an 80,000-mile Ferrari that's 40 years old. Jack has a YouTube channel documenting his adventures, too, which we'd certainly recommend subscribing to.
Where's progress got to? We'll hand over to Jack: "Have worked on it a fair bit more and the InfluEnzo has so far managed to maintain its unmatched ability to make me swing between delight and despair. Delight never seems to last all that long though.. a few days ago I finally took it on that drive .. and ..... the smoke cleared! I was ecstatic for at least 2 minutes, till I realised the engine felt down on power... and that lead to whole new round of investigations. It's only running on 7 cylinders. I believe this has been an issue for some time as there is evidence in the paperwork of this having been diagnosed in the past." This isn't going to be a quiet thread, then, by any means - get involved here!
