Here's a little secret for you: behind the pair of TVR stories, the third most-read news story on PH in September was the Audi RS4. Yep, in all the other drive stories and Frankfurt news coverage, you wanted to read about an Audi estate.

) is probably worth a few minutes, even if it's not a new model with composite panels that sheds precious kilos. There are weight saving measures however, the milled wheels now standard for both versions and saving 2kg per corner. You want actual carbon? RS5 it is then, because that comes with a roof made of the black stuff that saves a further 3kg.
Elsewhere these cars seem to represent something of a ram raid on the options list, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Both Carbon Editions feature the sports exhaust and the matrix LEDheadlamps - probably worth having - as well as the 'Carbon Matt Aluminium Styling Pack', carbon interior inlays and a carbon engine cover. Mmm...

Otherwise it's as you were for both cars, with the 450hp twin-turbo V6 and eight-speed auto. Obviously the RS4 hasn't been driven yet, but it might be suggested that the RS5's slightly more relaxed nature could be a better fit in the big estate. One to find out soon...
As for the specific Carbon Editions, they don't come cheap. The RS4 is £71,625 and the RS5 £75,400, the cars carrying premiums of £10,000 and £12,500 respectively over the standard versions. But then a C63 Edition 1 isn't exactly a bargain either, so there's clearly demand for these specials. Those after the carboned RS5 will receive their cars before Christmas, with the RS4 following in March. Orders can be placed now...
