Who doesn't love a good story of unseen and successful eBay car purchasing? Exactly, everyone enjoys them. Particularly so when it involves a long journey, bank holiday jeopardy and prized old hunk of bargain barge...
PHer 'mudy' - otherwise known as Ben - had to get out of an M2 PCP deal, with three candidates lined up as replacements: a Jaguar S-Type R, an E34 BMW 5 Series, or an E38 7 Series in Sport specification. One of the 7s popped up on that very popular auction site and, having ignored every rule in the book - bidding unseen, not getting it inspected, travelling on a single train ticket with no way of returning - it was his the day after.
Moreover, despite a few expected niggles, this 7 looks to be a good 'un. The mileage is low, it was recently serviced, there aren't too many nasty noises and rust isn't widespread. Remedial work is underway at pace, with Ben having already refreshed the brakes, numberplates and the vital fluids. We'll let him detail what else has happened, and what else is coming up, in the thread, but suffice it to say there are another couple of fans of this E38 in the PH office - top brave bidding that man!
