In a move that is guaranteed to shock the Porsche purists the carmaker has today announced that it will produce its first ever diesel model. A diesel Cayenne has been rumoured for some time and
PistonHeads reported the story back in March
But now the sportscar company that shocked the world by producing an SUV has confirmed the Cayenne will be fitted with an Audi 3-litre V6 turbo diesel. From February 2009 the Cayenne will be offered with a diesel option, a move the manufacturer said was in response to changed legal regulations especially in European markets.
This means that often tax incentives are offered for vehicles with diesel engines. The new unit produces 230bhp and can be found in Audi’s Q7 off-roader. Porsche says the torquey diesel (405lb ft) is ideal for its all-terrain vehicle and average fuel consumption is a claimed 31.2mpg.
The new Cayenne with diesel drive will be available from dealers from February 2009 onwards. Equipped with the proven Tiptronic-S automatic gearbox as standard, the Euro base price will be EUR 47,250. In Germany, the Cayenne with diesel engine including 19 percent VAT and country-specific equipment costs EUR 56,436.
