The off-road pickup has enjoyed something of a resurgence in recent years, with trucks like the Ranger Raptor and Toyota Hilux GR Sport - to say nothing of all the American stuff - really doing lifestyle vehicle properly. Can’t put trials bikes in the back of an SUV now, can you? For the moment, VW has seen fit not to kit out the new Amarok with all the gear and some idea of what you might do with it, which has at least left the aftermarket to work its magic.
This is Delta 4x4’s vision of what its Amarok ‘Beast’ will look like. And if it looks extreme, remember that Delta is the same company that upgraded the Rolls Cullinan to rally raid spec - so there are no half-measures involved. To that end, the Beast will ride a substantial 150mm higher than standard (though Delta hasn’t confirmed what kind of suspension kit will be used to achieve that) on those incredible off-road wheels, either 18- or 20-inch in diameter.
The smaller wheel rides on predictably enormous 305/70 tyre, necessitating the fitment of the arch extensions. Plus, of course, there’s the rest of the overhaul, including the roof rack with spare wheel, PIAA lamps like it’s a rally car and a winch to rescue fellow off-roadists - the Delta Amarok Beast is going to be a very serious pickup, in other words; on top of the already fairly serious pickup that the Amarok already is. Rendered next to a standard car, it makes VW's original look like a toy truck.
With Delta having created various Beast-level upgrades before, including for the Nissan Navara and Ford Ranger, expect the customer-ready Amarok to be available soon. For the moment the firm suggests referring to its website for additional info; whatever the end result, don’t expect it to come cheap. UK prices for the new car haven’t yet been announced, and it’s still possible to pay £40k for an old Amarok…
