Think of Audi in motorsport and it's hard not to think of rallying first. Then probably Le Mans. Or perhaps the other way round. The fact it has only been fairly successful in touring cars probably limits that to third place in the ranking.
And over here you would probably think of the A4 quattros in the BTCC than any DTM exploits. So by way of a PH history lesson, here's Hans Stuck on what it was like to race an Audi V8 quattro against M3s and 190Es in 1990.
If that sounds like an unfair race, especially after learning that Audi won the DTM in 1990, then it was far closer than it sounds. The Audis were around 300kg heavier than the M3s which offset its power advantage, meaning Hans Stuck and Johnny Cecotto were just a few points apart going into the final race at Hockenheim.
Being 1990, there's a needlessly dramatic narrator and plenty of slow-mo skidding too. And it all looks marvellous.
