Probably best talk about the prices first, shouldn't we? Because the guide prices for these two are rather more than they would have been a few years ago. Both the
M3
190 Evo
you see here have upper estimates of £115,000 for Silverstone Auctions' Classic Motor Show sale next weekend, a staggering if not entirely unexpected number. How much further can they go?
Because homologation, right?
With that dealt with, we can discuss the details. The M3 is a 1990 Sport Evo, one of 600 and registered originally to Alpina on March 10 1990. It arrived in the UK "shortly after", was based in Preston and treated to a few AC Schnitzer goodies including adjustable anti-roll bars, lowering springs - the audacity of it - and a new steering wheel. It's covered 65,000 miles, the service history is said to be extensive and the BMW toolkit has survived intact too.
The Mercedes is #28 of the 500 2.5-16 Evo IIs produced, in 'Blauschwarz' and with just 25,000 miles. It has had five owners, three services - probably best budget for a full fluids refresh then - and even the factory stickers are still in the windscreen. Expect the bidding to be pretty fierce on both!
But there's plenty more to be excited by at this auction. A
Cortina Savage
estate for example, Jeff Uren's own car once upon a time and expected to make between £24,000 and £28,000. For a more modern fast Ford - and a 90s sports saloon alternative to the German pair - this
Sierra Sapphire Cosworth
looks good value in the current climate with a £25K estimate. Princess Diana's
Audi Cabriolet
will also be at the NEC, along with a
Maserati Merak SS
F355
Super Samurai 240Z
, predicted to make the same money as the Ferrari.
Sounds like it should be an interesting sale then. Viewing takes place next Friday and on the weekend mornings, with the sale taking place on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Good luck if you're bidding!
