We've seen the Mercedes G63 AMG is capable of an awful lot for what is fundamentally a very old car now. It can hold its own
on the autobahn
(well, up to the 130mph limiter anyway) and is a fairly decent
tow car also
. It can probably do some off-roading if required too.
LHD-only doesn't really matter out here!
But apparently three locking diffs and four-wheel drive was insufficient for some AMG G-Wagen customers, hence the arrival of the
G63 AMG 6x6
. As our Time for Tea? vid earlier this year made clear, six wheels and five locking diffs leaves nothing insurmountable. Especially when they're supported by 544hp and 560lb ft.
Today a price has been announced for this absurd, wonderful creation. And, befittingly enough for a vehicle with 37-inch tyres and a 3,775kg kerbweight, it's massive; 451,010 euros in Germany, or around £380,000. A standard G63 is a relative snip at £123,975, but then that has to struggle along with four wheels.
Only between 20 and 30 G63 6x6s will rumble their way out of Affalterbach each year, all in LHD. The first customers will receive their cars early in 2014. Carpool submissions always welcome!
And as always with fast Benzes, there is an alternative if the AMG is just too subtle. This applies even to the G63 6x6; Brabus will sell you a 700hp version for half a million quid. You pays your money...
