While it’s easy to poke a little bit of fun at Paint to Sample - it costs lots of money, and for some people it’s apparently the most exciting bit of a Porsche - anything that aims to inject a bit of colour into modern motoring is to be celebrated. There are way too many black, white and silver cars out there already, and definitely not enough in Piedmont Red Metallic, Brilliant Turquoise Metallic and Merlin Purple Metallic.

So the introduction of PTS to the new Cayenne Electric range - expanding the colour palette from 13 to 105 - sounds like good news to us. Oh sure, at £7,913, it’s an option that’s almost 10 per cent of the price of an £83k standard car - and heaven knows what Java Green Metallic might do for large EV SUV residuals - but colourful cars are cool cars. Especially when they’re so often specced in some shade of grey. And fortune does favour the brave…

The introduction of PTS comes as part of a wider-reaching update for the Cayenne, this another EV that’s getting a meaningful refresh not long after launch. For MY27, the inductive charging that’s been talked about since launch can now be optioned on; while all Cayenne Electrics for the UK and Ireland leave the factory with the hardware for Porsche Wireless Charging, the vehicle pad wasn’t available. Now it is (add £1,930 on top of that PTS shade), working with a ground pad plonked on your parking space (£5,355) for charging at up to 11kW and efficiency of about 90 per cent. Plus an automatic halt to the charge if anything with a pulse accidentally crawls onto the pad…

Speaking of automatic, the Cayenne Electric now has the option of electric doors - just in case it wasn’t heavy or complex enough. For £1,632, servo motors ‘take care of the virtually effortless opening and closing of all four doors’; occupants can give the handle a brief tug, somebody can press a PCM icon, there are buttons inside or the Digital Key can be used. As soon as the driver puts their seatbelt on, the door will close. Or it can be used as just, y’know, a door, with manual operation. Ideal for those using a Cayenne to chauffeur, perhaps.

That’s not the end of the super luxe options from Porsche, either, as there’s a new massage function for the Cayenne that sounds a lot like the Body and Soul Seats in a Range Rover. Both front seats can optionally (add another £2,935, with ventilation included) be had with a ‘completely new massage experience’; it uses 16 air cushions and six sound actuators to work through five massage programmes and offer up ‘a four-dimensional musical experience in the vehicle.’ The 4D sound can be enjoyed without massage, too. Maybe one to look out for when it comes to a secondhand Cayenne.

All the new Cayenne options are available to order now, expanding the scope of a pretty comprehensive Porsche configurator ever further.
