A Porsche 964 RS Touring, one of just 11 in such a specification, is set to go under the gavel at Silverstone Auctions' Porsche Sale next month. Originally created to homologate the 964 for the Porsche Carrera Cup racing series, the RS was produced in two variants: the lightweight Sport and the more civilised Touring. With the stripped out Sport perhaps too compromised for some, the Touring has become the more sought after car in recent years.
Despite retaining more of the Carrera's creature comforts, it still weighed less than the standard car, with mechanical improvements including a blueprinted engine, single-mass flywheel, lowered and stiffened suspension, and uprated brakes. The RS Touring was endowed with significantly more torque than a standard 964, although power was only improved by 10hp.
The specific car up for sale in October is one of just six UK right-hand drive versions, finished in black with a black interior and featuring Sport leather seats with triple colour inlays. The estimate? That'd be £185,000 - £210,000. More details on the lot and the auction can be had here.
Should going down the auction route seem like too much faff though - or the prospect of being outbid deter you - there are, as always, several alternatives in the PH classifieds. For starters, there are a few RS Tourings for sale in the classifieds - because PistonHeads - this left-hand drive car available at £250K. The auction car could be a bargain...
Want something a little different? This
964 Speedster
ought to do the trick. Unfortunately it's one of the 800 made prior to 1994 when the Speedster received a major overhaul; nonetheless it's highly prized and undeniably different.
How about something really different though? As in, only three in existence different. For that we present this 380hp, flat nose Ruf Turbo. What is there that even needs saying about it? Just look at the thing! The ad depressingly describes it as a "fantastic investment opportunity" but it's also a fantastic opportunity to own an incredible machine and have a bloody good time driving it!
