A generation playing Gran Turismo will know the name Ruf. Unlike tuners RWB and Liberty Walk, RUF manufactures its own Porsche-based sports cars. Arguably it's most famous is the 'Yellowbird' CTR, that legendary 211mph rocketship that Stefan Roser so artfully slithered
around the Nordschleife
. With just 29 built, it remains one of the 80s supercar icons.
Currently, RUF's five models are all capable of exceeding 200mph. Interestingly, when PH was at the Geneva motor show earlier this year a yellow, right-hand drive 991 RTR was on the stands. Was that a sign to the company's intentions? Estonia Ruf, Managing Director of RUF Automobile GmbH said: "The opening of the UK office comes at an important time for us because our range of cars is now the strongest it has ever been. The reception we received at the 2016 Geneva motor show this year was incredible and the level of interest in the latest RUF cars has exceeded all of our expectations."
RUF's office is in Kent, forming part of the international network including the USA, Canada, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Chile. Here's hoping press cars will be available soon...
