Given the MX-5's reputation for numerous special editions, it wasn't going to be long before the a limited-run
Mk4
was confirmed. Here we have it, right in time for the Goodwood Festival of Speed: the MX-5 Icon.
White or grey available, but always with red
Keen MX-5 fans will know this isn't the first appearance of the Icon nameplate, the badge also having appeared on a pair of Mk2s (in 2000 and 2005) as well as a Mk3 in 2007. Like those cars, it's an enhancement of design and equipment rather than anything performance focused. You didn't expect that this early, did you?
The Icon is based on the 1.5 SE-L and is offered in either Meteor Grey or Crystal White paint with contrasting Soul Red accents (see the wing mirrors, rear spoiler and front splitter). The 16-inch Gunmetal alloy wheels are standard too, as is leather, rear parking sensors and auto wipers that are optional on the SE-L.
Production of the Icon is limited to 600 cars, each one costing £20,995. Plus, if the Icon isn't the MX-5 for you, Goodwood will also see pre-orders open for the eagerly anticipated Retractable Fastback, due in dealers next year. Prices aren't announced yet, but we'll bring you more details as soon as possible!
