Those of us raised on an unhealthy diet of Gran Turismo and Fast & Furious will be well aware of Spoon Sports. The yellow and blue Hondas were icons of the Japanese tuning scene, revving to preposterous limiters and serving up lap times to embarrass exotica. Now the dream of modifying a Honda with Spoon parts in real life has become a little more attainable, with JDM specialists Torque GT announced as official distributors for Spoon in the UK and EU (excluding France, which continues with its existing supplier).
While Torque GT has offered Spoon bits and bobs since forming its parts division in 2016, an official team-up ought to streamline the process. The aim is to improve availability and reduce lead times on in-demand stuff; the days of overnighting from Japan may have gone (if indeed they ever existed for those not on the West Coast of America), though hopefully this arrangement should eliminate any interminable delays. Because no wait is longer than the wait for cool car parts. Alongside ‘revised pricing and enhanced technical support’, it sounds like a real good news day for Honda fans in the UK.
There’s plenty to be tempted by for those drivers in the Torque GT Spoon catalogue, rest assured. Sort it by price high-to-low and there are blueprinted K20Cs, carbon spoilers, S2000 coilovers, N1 exhausts and all the good stuff to make it feel like a shopping trip at The Racer’s Edge. But flip it the other way and there are sticker sets for a tenner, billet aluminium gearknobs, storage boxes, spark plugs… if you like Hondas, if you like Spoon, there’ll be something there.
‘We’re incredibly excited to bring Spoon Sports closer to the UK and EU community and look forward to helping you enhance your Honda with some of the best performance parts in the world’, said Torque GT in a blog post. It reckons there are new parts on the way soon as well, which is exciting. Hopefully one or two will be compatible with the supercharged Civic Type R saloon it has for sale…
