In a motoring landscape apparently dominated by small crossovers, the Suzuki Jimny probably doesn't come across as all that fashionable in 2016. To most people, anyway. But for those buyers after an unpretentious and very capable 4x4, the Jimny appears to sit alone in a
Defender-less world
as an off-roader not really designed to do anything else.
Now, 18 years after the Jimny was first introduced to the UK, there's a new Adventure Special Edition. It's limited to just 200 units and comes only in a two-tone white and grey paint scheme. It's described by Suzuki as "a quirky alternative to a supermini or crossover SUV." Isn't it funny that a traditional 4x4 is now the quirky choice, such is the proliferation of supermini-derived rivals?
Anyway, the Adventure is based on an SZ4 Jimny and adds full screen nav, Bluetooth and an 'Adventure' logo on the hard spare wheel cover. Because nothing says proper off-roader like a hard spare wheel cover. It's powered by the same 1.3-litre engine as a standard Jimny; doesn't sound like a lot, particularly as it isn't turbocharged, but then remember that the little Suzuki weighs just 1,090kg.
The Adventure costs £14,949 and is on sale now. Finally, should you be looking for your own Adventure adventure, then you could do a lot worse than following Les Carvall's lead; in 2014 he and three friends drove a pair of Jimnys 18,500 miles around the world. See the video updates here. And the best news? Both Jimnys returned with no reliability faults whatsoever.
