Best homologation specials, £70k dailies...

... and a Chinese EV firm's patent for an in-car lavatory

It’s not often that a Peugeot 205 T16 winds up for sale on PistonHeads. The company only made 200 of them for homologation purposes, a fraction of which are in the UK, and you’d imagine that a good chunk are stashed away while their owners wait patiently for their values to creep ever higher. So when one as seemingly box-fresh as this example appears on the classifieds, it’s worth a moment of your time to bask in its box-arched glory - and why we’ve dedicate a segment to it on this week’s episode of The Gassing Station podcast.

Well, sort of. As stupendously cool and rare the T16 is, there’s likely a sizeable number hiding behind that POA. And what if you’d rather spend your cash on a homologation special that does’t resemble a hatchback? If that’s the case, we’ve crawled the classifieds for the best bred-for-motorsport specials for every price range, from a track-prepped Renaultsport Clio 172 Cup to a one-of-eight, right-hand drive Porsche 911 GT. There are some real oddities chucked in, too, and a few you may not have known were homologation specials in the first place.

As ever, we’ve another buying challenge to sink our teeth into. PHer stevekoz is chopping in their Mercedes AMG A 45 for a new daily driver that can not only handle the school run and shopping trips, but can also work on weekend driving holidays and maybe the odd track day. Good thing there’s a budget of £70,000, though Sam’s managed to save £11k by going with this 830-mile Ford Mustang Dark Horse. I, however, have gone for something far more practical - and more powerful - with this Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Estate for £65,900. Both cars come under budget by some way, which is a first for The Gassing Station, but if you think you can do better then you can drop your suggestions in the topic here.

Finally, a story you wouldn’t have seen on the PH homepage, but that didn’t stop mobile chicane22 from bringing it to our attention. Apparently, a Chinese manufacturer called Seres has filed a patent for an in-car bog. Yes, really. Quite why you’d want or need a portable lavatory under your seat is one thing, but given that Seres makes EVs you’ll naturally be stopping for longer when charging up. As you can imagine, the topic is brimming with brilliant responses, so take a look if you’re in need of a giggle and give the pod a listen while you’re at it.
