Those who simply must have the Turbo aside, the GTS has always covered a lot of bases very convincingly for Macan buyers. As it has for 911 buyers, actually, and anyone after a Panamera. Or a Cayenne... Anyway, to sate the appetite of those people, Porsche has made a new Macan GTS.
The most significant news is a sliver of extra power, the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 now making 380hp - more than a M40i X4 (354hp) and an Audi SQ5 (347hp), but less than the 390hp Mercedes-AMG GLC 43. With the PDK dual-clutch gearbox overhauled, the GTS is now said to be capable of a 4.7-second dash to 62mph and a 162mph top speed. Those three tenths saved in the benchmark sprint will be critical away from the nursery gates, of course as will the standard sports exhaust to announce your departure.
Chassis revisions include a 15mm ride height reduction from standard (optionally dropped another 10 with air suspension), reworked PASM dampers, standard 20-inch RS Spyder wheels and 360mm front brakes, adding up to a package that promises the "agility and responsiveness of a sports car." For the first time on a Macan GTS, the tungsten carbide-coated PSCB brakes are available optionally, as well as the ceramic rotors.
Marking out the Macan are the tweaks that are becoming familiar to the GTS Porsches: black accents, darkened lights, red calipers, bespoke badges and acres of Alcantara. Unique to the GTS is the multifunction wheel, and that Porsche options catalogue will of course be there for any further customer requests.
Porsche's most driver-focussed Macan has always delivered a resoundingly complete package, so expect that to continue in this latest iteration. Orders are being taken now, with prices from £58,816. Those who can sacrifice the 20hp might like to know that the original GTS is now available for less than £40k, but with more than 70,000 miles - residuals are seemingly very strong for a Macan!
